Dear Families,
Welcome to Fifth Grade at Donelson Elementary! I am pleased to be your child’s math and science teacher this year, and I look forward to getting to know you and your child and working together to help your child succeed!
Teaching is not only a job to me. It is my hobby and passion--- I love teaching! I began teaching in 1994, all within Shelby County (2nd grade at Millington Central Elementary; 3rd, 1st, and 5th grade at Ellendale Elementary; and 5th Grade at Donelson). It is my goal, my mission, to instill in your child a love for learning, to encourage them to be independent thinkers, and to help them become competent and productive citizens. Your child can expect to be engaged in many hands-on science activities. Manipulatives and technology will be utilized in both subjects to help your child build their conceptual understanding and communicate their thinking.
I received my M.A.T. from the University of Memphis and my B.A. from Cal State University. I am an Army brat and (after my dad retired from the Army) a farmer’s daughter! I am married to Chris and have 5 sons (all grown), a great-niece that lives with us, and two grandchildren that live nearby! I am an Arlington resident, and two of my sons are Arlington High graduates. Oh, and I also have a cat named Toby!
I think it is important that a positive, safe, and caring environment be developed and maintained throughout the school year. One way to meet this goal is to get to know your child better. If you could take a moment and please write me a letter/email about your child, I would truly appreciate it. Also, if you have any questions/concerns, the best way to contact me is via email at [email protected].
Once again, welcome to 5th grade. I know that, together, we can make this a wonderful school year.
Sincerely,
Teri Johnson
